Boo Halloween.

Despite the fact that it is usually one of my favorite holidays, I’ll be the first to admit it, Everly’s first halloween was a bit of a bust.

Reason #1: Her costume didn’t turn out as I planned. The dye we used to color the hoodies for the girl’s costumes faded drastically when they were washed a second time but we just ran out of time to try and redye them again. I finished her pants on my trip, but we were still making pom pom balls on Saturday morning. Between Everly and Mylah’s costumes, we made well over 100 pom poms.  It bugged the crap out of me that the background wasn’t green, but we attached them anyway and while it’s not what I had envisioned, it still turned out pretty cute.

Reason #2: 50 plus yarn pom poms attached to a hoodie are a lot heavier than you might expect. Everly hated the top and basically refused to stand up whenever we would put it on her. She just flopped to the ground and laid there in protest until we removed it. I just had a funny feeling that Everly would protest wearing a costume and I felt like I saw my future after this hysterical post on Modern Kiddo. Looks like I was right, she wasn’t having it.

Reason #3: We tried our hardest to get back to Raleigh at a decent hour to put Mylah and Everly in the wagon and cart them around the neighborhood to a few houses. But doing anything quickly these days is nearly impossible and after brunch, we didn’t manage to get on the road until 3pm. We pulled into our driveway a little after 7pm and it was already so dark. Factoring that in with Evie’s costume crankiness and we decided to just eat a few snack size snickers in our living room and call it a night.

But here they are: Our little apple trees. A baby orchard!

(These are the best three photos I could get out of the 50+ I took. Most are of her frowning, crying or lying face down.)

Love,

M

Growing the Good April Charity: The Theodore Mulhollan Walk Team for March of Dimes.

Hello. I'm Melissa.

Wife to a rock n roll, super dad named Brent.

We're the adventuring type. Go. do. See.
We hit the jackpot when we had our daughter, Everly Veda in January 2010.
She has my eyes, his lips and a San Francisco heart.

In May 2011, we welcomed Arlo Redding, the most magical little dude ever into our family. His presence has made our good thing, even better.

We like old stuff and keeping it simple.
We believe in love, family and a good pair of cowboy boots.

Brent sings songs.
I write words.
And these sweet babies make our world go round.

Welcome.
