A story about the time I fell in love with an undergarment.

This is going to sound completely obnoxious, but before having a baby I didn’t really get the whole Spanx thing. What was the big deal with high waisted biker shorts?

Thinking about that now, I just want to whap that girl upside her skinny little head. After Everly, I quickly learned that Spanx are actually a glorious, fantastically wonderful gift to womankind. There should be a Spanx holiday. With a parade. and cupcakes.

I am now a Spanxer for life. Baby weight or not, they’re miracle workers and will forever remain part of my wardrobe. When Everly was a few months old, we had a photoshoot with an awesome photography from L.A. named Quoc Ngo.

For this shoot, I of course, utilized my trusty new friend Spanxy’s (We’ve grown so close, I gave them a nickname) but then Quoc had us out jumping and goofing off in the street in front of our home. Between my flouncy top and my low waist jeans … My spanx were showing up all over our photos. Me and Spanxy, we’re close - but not that close.

Perhaps this makes me a fickle friend, but Spanx are only awesome when they go undetected. Flashing them is never cool and the “sorry, I, you know, just had a baby” excuse only works so many times.

Thanks to a talented photographer (and probably some careful editing) my Spanxy’s are virtually undetectable in the whole set… but they are the reason I was able to squeeze in those pre-baby black jeans.

and so this random little post is an ode to my little spandex miracle workers. No matter how many babies I have or pants sizes I fluctuate between, just know you’ll always have a place in my closet.

Love,

M

Growing the Good April Charity: The Theodore Mulhollan Walk Team for March of Dimes.

Hello. I'm Melissa.

Wife to a rock n roll, super dad named Brent.

We're the adventuring type. Go. do. See.
We hit the jackpot when we had our daughter, Everly Veda in January 2010.
She has my eyes, his lips and a San Francisco heart.

In May 2011, we welcomed Arlo Redding, the most magical little dude ever into our family. His presence has made our good thing, even better.

We like old stuff and keeping it simple.
We believe in love, family and a good pair of cowboy boots.

Brent sings songs.
I write words.
And these sweet babies make our world go round.

Welcome.
