A peek into my mind

So much going on this week.  Here’s what’s swirling through my head at the moment:

1. This post . I’d really like to give this dad-isms guy the biggest eye roll the world has ever seen. As I sit here at my desk, still tired from my trip to NYC, still digging out of my inbox, still thinking of the two presentations looming this afternoon - All I can say is, buddy- let me tell you something. Every mom I know is doing the best she can for her family. We don’t all get to be stay at home moms. The cards don’t always fall that way. And it’s not that we’re not “sacrificing” enough for our families. We all sacrifice ourselves - heart, mind and body to raising happy kids. Stay at home moms are amazing (whew, and crazy hardworking to boot!) - but how dare you imply working mothers are a lesser breed!  Each of us is doing the very best we can to keep our families moving in the right direction. Please go back to 1954 and stay there.

2. Watching the rescue of the Chilean miners - What a rush of joy!  A true blessing and I am celebrating along with the rest of the world today.

3.  I’m obsessed with these glitter combat boots for Everly. Sure it will be awhile before she could even fit in them, but I refuse to believe there will ever be a day when glitter covered combat boots will be out of fashion.

4. The NC State Fair Starts tomorrow. And I am so ready to enjoy: foot long corndogs, deep friend snickers bars, Big Mt. Olive dill pickles, fresh made apple cider, the largest pumpkin contest, the cake decorating contest, and oohing over tiny little piglets!

5.  This gorgeous, gorgeous man turns THIRTY years old tomorrow.

I can not believe he’s going to be thirty. I officially get to call him an old man until I fall to the same fate next March. For his birthday, he is getting the very exciting present of paying off some of our debt. Woo hoo! We’ve decided we can go back to buying each other new cowboy boots and bicycles when we’ve finished off the rest of our medical and college debt. It’ll feel good to not have that hanging over us anymore.

So there you go. A peek into this nutty head of mine: A little frustration, some joy, and a whole lotta love.

Growing the Good April Charity: The Theodore Mulhollan Walk Team for March of Dimes.

Hello. I'm Melissa.

Wife to a rock n roll, super dad named Brent.

We're the adventuring type. Go. do. See.
We hit the jackpot when we had our daughter, Everly Veda in January 2010.
She has my eyes, his lips and a San Francisco heart.

In May 2011, we welcomed Arlo Redding, the most magical little dude ever into our family. His presence has made our good thing, even better.

We like old stuff and keeping it simple.
We believe in love, family and a good pair of cowboy boots.

Brent sings songs.
I write words.
And these sweet babies make our world go round.

Welcome.
