How we celebrate. part 2

We had plans all along to go visit our friends Nick & Kate on their farm in Snow Camp, NC. When we talked last week I gave Kate one task “Find the best tree on the whole farm to have a picnic under”. Sadly, the rain kept our outdoor picnic at bay - so we sat around the table at their little farm house eating soft cheeses, roasted red peppers, grapes, and pesto pasta with pomegranite lemonade.

They’ve recently moved  from the old bus that they inhabited for most of the summer into this old house in an effort to renovate it.

After lunch, we donned our galoshes and a few umbrellas, put Everly in her Kokopax carrier - and off we went, determined to explore the farm no matter how hard it was raining!

Early this week, I had already decided on the perfect fluffy, blue skirt to wear on our outing. In reality, It was probably not the best choice of attire to wear while hiking around a muddy, rain soaked farm - but I just pulled on my galoshes and said to hell with it and wore it anyway. Besides, That’s what dry cleaners are for!

We were nose to nose with so many animals - little pigs, goats, sheep, ginnies, turkeys, chickens, and donkeys! We also had a pack of about 5 farm dogs that followed us as we wove our way through each part of the property. If you’re local to the triangle, you can find Cane Creek Farm selling their free range, organic meats each week at the Carrboro farmer’s market.

We ended our adventure with a stop at the main house (where Kate’s cousin lives) to snuggle their new kittens and dry off a bit and they sent us home with fresh eggs and just picked eggplant and basil.

It was such a memorable day - and just another anniversary adventure to add to our collection! Even if we had enough money to afford fancy dinners or lavish trips, we’d still probably choose to pack up the car, bring along a little basket of food and get muddy while having our clothes nibbled on by a soaking wet donkey.

It’s certainly not everyone’s idea of an ideal way to celebrate an anniversary, but it was just what we had in mind.

Love,

M

Hello. I'm Melissa.

Wife to a rock n roll, super dad named Brent.

We're the adventuring type. Go. do. See.
We hit the jackpot when we had our daughter, Everly Veda in January 2010.
She has my eyes, his lips and a San Francisco heart.

In May 2011, we welcomed Arlo Redding, the most magical little dude ever into our family. His presence has made our good thing, even better.

We like old stuff and keeping it simple.
We believe in love, family and a good pair of cowboy boots.

Brent sings songs.
I write words.
And these sweet babies make our world go round.

Welcome.
