Everly’s vocabulary has officially gone into warp speed mode. She is picking up words and ideas so quickly that Brent and I can barely keep up. We’ve learned first hand that we can no longer have discussions about her, in front of her, as she is comprehending everything we say. I told Brent, “After lunch we need to get her down for a nap before we head out this afternoon”. She was in the middle of watching a cartoon and coloring when she just stopped, looked me dead in the eyes and said “No mama. No nap”  So we have learned pretty quickly to S-P-E-L-L everything out. Can anyone tell me how we are supposed to communicate once she goes to school and learns to spell? Is there a secret parent sign language we should be learning now?  pig latin? or text messaging maybe?

As she learns to gain master control of tongue and verbal abilities, we’ve had the best time giggling over just how darn cute everything she says sounds. I grabbed the camera to try to capture the way she says the name of our neighbor’s dog Spartacus after she had been calling out to him from the window. “Mah la tis” is a good start while she figures out how to make the “ssss” sound.

Those of you who have been on this journey with me since the day I brought her home, can you come in real close and hug it out with me? I mean look at her… look at how big she is getting… It has been such an astounding thing to watch unfold, dear readers, and I’m happy you’ve been here beside us all along.

Love,

M

Growing the Good April Charity: The Theodore Mulhollan Walk Team for March of Dimes.

Hello. I'm Melissa.

Wife to a rock n roll, super dad named Brent.

We're the adventuring type. Go. do. See.
We hit the jackpot when we had our daughter, Everly Veda in January 2010.
She has my eyes, his lips and a San Francisco heart.

In May 2011, we welcomed Arlo Redding, the most magical little dude ever into our family. His presence has made our good thing, even better.

We like old stuff and keeping it simple.
We believe in love, family and a good pair of cowboy boots.

Brent sings songs.
I write words.
And these sweet babies make our world go round.

Welcome.
