Oh so crafty.
Here’s a little something to inspire your Friday afternoon - The coolest homemade dollhouse “suitcase” ever.
Since I don’t sew, what are the chances I could pull this off with a glue gun and a stapler?
Check out all the amazing handmade, crafty goodness here.

Baby Prep 101: The Real Life Edition
As we prepare for little mister, I’ve been reminiscing on the preparation we did before Everly arrived and what things we’ll need a refresher on before our sweet baby boy arrives. But thinking back on the things a new baby course teaches you - how to change a diaper, how to swaddle, how to give baby their first bath - I realized that all of that stuff is pretty easy and intuitive.

kateomb asked: Hi Melissa - Loved the photos you posted today. In particular, the shot of you in your gorgeous wedding dress reminded me of something that has been bugging me. What to do with my wedding dress! I was married 2 years ago, and wore a similar simple, long, lacy dress, which has been hanging in my closet since. I'm kind of nostalgic, but I'm thinking maybe selling it is a good idea. After...

An evolution in photo shoots
A little look back at 5 years worth of photo shoots and how much my life has changed, grown and blossomed during that time.

Tiny Pen pals.
Some months back, one of my most adored blog friends, James of Bleubird Vintage, had the brilliant idea that her sweet Gemma Bird and my sassy Everly Veda would make swell tiny pen pals. Since then, our girls have been sending each other little packages of goodies. I have loved every bit of this adventure - from keeping my eyes peeled for sweet little dresses and children’s books to send...
Letting it go.
I don’t know what started it, really - maybe it was the fact that Brent and I had gotten in an argument on Friday night over the fact he finds my irrational fear of insects silly (at dinner, with friends, no less). Maybe it was that Everly has been refusing to take naps for the past few days and she’s been exceptionally fussy because of it. Maybe it was just pregnancy hormones - but...
A study in shoes
I don’t know why I’m so drawn to photographing them, but there are dozens and dozens of photos of my feet, of Brent’s feet, of friend’s feets and of little Everly feet on our computer. I think maybe it’s my effort to capture the going of life - by photographing the part of our bodies that carry us from one moment to the next.
So here’s a...
A few more...
Some days, when I’m feeling stressed out with how much I have on my plate at work, I think about my husband and our little girl. I think about how lucky we are that his music schedule is flexible enough to allow him to stay at home every day with her. I think about how lucky she is to spend every day learning about the world with her daddy.
On those rough days, knowing that these two...

Answering my #1 reader question
Lately it seems that one question I get over and over again on my blog is “What kind of camera do you use?” so I wanted to take a quick moment and share. We have a Canon Rebel T1i.
This camera might as well be considered another member of our family as it is never out of arms reach. Just about every time we leave the house the following conversation takes place:
Me: “Ok,...

How sweet it is to be loved by you.
Valentine’s Day already, Melissa?!?!
Yes, already. I have two modes - way ahead of the game or three days late. If I don’t start thinking about it now, I’ll be that crazy mom scrounging the last picked over bag of hershey kisses off the bottom rack at Target during my lunch break on Valentine’s day.
To ensure you don’t wind up in the same spot, here’s some...

Our Favorite Two Days.
You know how occasionally, despite being jam packed, a weekend will come along that just feels good start to finish? Busy, but not rushed. Lots of things to do, but all of them enjoyable. That’s how this past weekend felt for us.
Saturday was Mylah West’s first birthday, a celebratory brunch that was full of special little touches that Natasha and Scotty had put together. One of my...

Everly's Birthday (Part 3, My favorite parts!)
There were two things at Everly’s party that stand out as my very favorites. 1. Her special keep forever and ever party hat and 2. the expert way with which she demolished her first ever birthday cake.
Our newest Dear Baby sponsor is an amazing little etsy shop called Stell and Livi that makes beautiful custom, felt party hats. Having one of these magical little hats created for...

Everly's Birthday (Part 2, The dress!)
Ahh, the dress! I wanted to find a dress that reflected Everly’s birthday invitations and party theme and searched etsy & online children’s shops for months looking for the perfect one. I finally found the most wonderful little dress at Burger Belly Beans. This whimsical children’s line is all about bright colors, bold prints and retro elements. Jessica, who runs this sweet...

The Rundown. 12 months.
(At the pediatrician’s this week. Rocking the 7th generation disposable because that’s all we could find in your diaper bag. oops)
Stats: At 12 months you weigh 21 pounds, 15 oz. (70%), 30 inches tall (80%) & have an 18 inch head (55%).
You grew 9 inches and gained 13 and a half pounds in a year’s time! All the walking you’ve been doing for the last two months has...

Everly's San Francisco themed birthday party (Part...
I kept joking at Everly’s party to our friends and family not to expect all of her parties to be like this - The one million details, elaborate food display, etc. To be honest, I think there is a lot to be said for a good ‘ol fashion kids birthday party. The kind I had a lot of growing up. Burgers or pizza, a cake (or if you were really lucky an ICE CREAM cake), maybe a balloon on the...

Just a little "hey you're awesome" shout out'
to Jen who fixed my blog tonight with her magical internet powers.
Thank you for allowing me to go to bed with a fully functioning blog and not a blank white screen.
Hooray for awesome blog friends.

A New Year.
Ah, 2010. I was kind of sad to see you go. It was a good, good year for our family but knowing how much we have to look forward to in 2011 made saying goodbye easier.
Friday night, we all got dolled up to meet a group of our friends for dinner. Brent looked dashing and Everly’s little sparkly get up was a perfect way to celebrate the end of the year.
Everly’s Outfit:
Dress: Baby...
