Letters to Everly.
My dove,
I haven’t written you in some weeks. I’ve found myself struggling more with words lately. How can I tell you the things I feel for you without saying what I’ve already said?
I’m not sure it’s possible.
I’ve whispered in your ears a thousand times that God picked you out especially for your father and I. I’ve traced the words I love you in...
A little package came for Everly this week. It was the coolest little romper (perfectly sized for next summer) and a pair of the cutest bloomers - both made by hand from my friend Kimberly.
I tell you what, I love a good ruffle covered baby butt. I really do.
And also, I have less than a months window left to engage in mama-only photo shoots with the dove. This kid is on the move - It took about...

Spain. A stop in Bilbao.
Talk about a change of scenery! Driving into Bilbao after a week in the countryside was a bit of a shock to our senses - tall buildings, roads and bridges criss crossing left and right, so many cars and people… it certainly was night and day from the quiet, laid-back village of Ruerrero.
We decided we wanted to spend one night in the city as it seemed a shame to fly all that way and not do...

Spain. Where we found everything. Part 4
There are literally thousands of videos and photos of things we did in Spain - midnight Paella dinners in the square of the village, with everyone young and old sharing together in a meal and dancing late into the night.
Afternoons spent laying in the sun on a blanket in the backyard of the house while Brent sang and played guitar and Everly pulled up fistfulls of grass for close inspection.
A...

A couple of new baby food recipes to share.
Thank goodness for a little thing called self control, because Brent and I were licking the sides of the food processor like it was cake batter after sampling each of these. Also, my measurements aren’t exact because I just created these recipes as I went. Go with your gut as to what quantities would work for you.
Chicky Green Peas
Sautee 1 clove of finely chopped garlic in a heavy...

Spain. Where we found everything. part 3.
From the minute we landed in Madrid, there was one very blatant difference between America and Spain - the way people react to children. Here in the states, we’re all so afraid of germs, we’re afraid of strangers touching our children or getting too close, and we’ve learned to take a guarded approach when interacting with children we do not know.
Spain… not so much. The...
Oh Happy Miracle →
Before I left for Spain, I had dinner with one of my dear friends, Kristen. She’s hell on wheels in the best possible way - spirited, fun, and full of love. We’ve known each other since high school but became close in college. Kristen was my partner in crime for many a night out in our early twenties. We were married just two weeks a part and her father was the officiant at our...
Hello 5,000 followers.
This little post is just for those of you who follow me on tumblr.
Today I looked over and saw I had exactly five thousand tumblr followers. That is really, truly a humbling achievement for this little baby blog of mine.
I feel really proud to be a part of this blogging community. Blogspot and Wordpress and whatever other blogging platforms that are out there are fine and dandy - but I’m a...
Spain. Where we found everything. part 2.
By the time we made it to Ruerrero (minus all of our luggage which was lost somewhere along our travel path) it was 1:30am. I expected most of the household to be asleep when we arrived. Instead, the moment the car pulled up we were surrounded by a dozen children!
All of them cheered as we exited. We knew a handful of the teenagers who had made a trip to San Francisco last March to visit the...
Spain. Where we found everything.
This trip to Spain meant something different to each member of our little family.
For Brent, it was an exploration - an opportunity to learn about a different culture, to immerse himself in nature, to escape the day-in, day-out routine that can sometimes tie down even the most freedom seeking spirits.
For Everly, Spain was entertainment. A new environment, a new language in her ears, tasting...

Road Tripping with Baby
Welcome to guest blogger week. While I pretend to be a Spanish senorita with my little family for the next 10 days, I’ve got a line up of really fabulous bloggers who are going to keep this ship afloat in my absence. Hope you enjoy these posts as much as I do!

Kirby knows a thing or two about traveling with an infant - so I thought this post was extremely fitting as we jet set with the...

I’ve been so interested in trying baby sign language and wish I would have started it earlier with Everly. Below, a baby...

Adventures in eating. part 2.
You’d be hard pressed to attend any family reunion, church homecoming, or holiday in North Carolina without a big pot of chicken and dumplings on the table (My mom’s family calls it “chicken and pastry” but it’s all the same thing, really)
If I was a death row inmate (this is a bad analogy isn’t it?) and they said to me “What do you want your last meal to...
Adventures in eating. part 1.
Saturday morning we took Everly to one of our favorite Raleigh breakfast joints. It’s an old drive-in turned greasy spoon and two people can eat like kings for around ten bucks. I truly believe the mark of a good breakfast place is mismatched coffee mugs. If you walk in, and everyone’s holding a different mug, you ought to grab a seat. My theory has yet to be disproven.
The first...

A very candid list of things you might want to...
Listen ladies. Who hasn’t heard the stories about hemorrhoids, milk spraying boobs, etc. - We all have - from relatives, blogs, friends but I’ve been thinking about a few things that I was completely clueless about before getting into the thick of this whole growing a new person saga and I feel like I need to share these. Dad, if you’re reading - you can stop here. I’m...

Play me a song, baby.
Even though we’re bound and determine to limit the number of toys that we give Everly to play with at one time, there are two exceptions to this rule: books and musical instruments.
We’re incredibly guilty of collecting both of these things ourselves, so we figured we might as well start the dove in our passions as early as possible.
Sunday afternoon I let her play with the camp...
Saturday, it rained.
Not a down pour really, more of that steady, drizzly rain where you don’t know what setting to put the wipers on in the car or whether it’s actually worthy of breaking out the umbrella.
There was a big festival downtown so we decided to walk there. Here’s what I can report: It was crowded, the line was too long to get a funnel cake, I narrowly avoided having my eyes poked out by...
