As I dig through old pictures and get all mama-sentimental at how much Everly has changed in a year’s time, I want to also thank you for taking this journey along with us. I can’t believe how...
A night out.
Brent and I went out last night to celebrate my dear friend Megan’s birthday. Everly had been wearing her outfit all day, and I guess I must have liked it enough that I subconsciously dressed like her when picking out my clothes for the evening. I didn’t realize it until we were headed out the door, so I convinced Brent to snap a few photos on the front porch.
Also, I am completely in...
You better work it girl.
I totaly stole these off Natasha’s facebook page, but here’s EV wearing two of her cute new dresses this week:
This one is short so we made it into a tunic. Paired it with a hand-me-down sweater, skinny jeans and her tan zara boots.
There is the most wonderful story behind these little red shoes, they were a surprise gift from Evie’s tiny penpal Gemma Bird.
These are both...
Winter Wonderland.
We got six inches of snow over night and into the morning. I love how insulated and pure everything feels when snow falls. We’ve spent the day snuggled up on the couch, nibbling on Christmas leftovers and watching the squirrels and birds hide out under our cars to escape the weather (note to self: Buy birdhouses!)
We realized pretty quick this morning that we are poorly equipped for the...

Before Everly was born, her aunt Katie sent her a big red fluffy tutu made by the same company that makes tutus for the NYC ballet. Katie was a ballerina practically her whole life and it was a very sweet and fitting gift for our girl.
Brent also has a background in dance. He took years of jazz and ballet as a young boy and I love to giggle over the photos of him in his dance costumes in family...

Halfway home.
Well folks, today is officially the 20 week mark in my pregnancy. Halfway through and halfway to meeting our little mister. I think I started taking bump photos with Everly at like 13 weeks (ha!) but I think that’s the case with most first timers - I was a brand new mom and I just really, really wanted to look pregnant as soon as possible.
Everyone has always told me that you pop so much...

Pretty little dresses.
Very recently, Everly has started reacting to what we pick out for her to wear each day. If we pull out a pair of shoes she’s never seen before, she has to inspect them carefully for a few minutes before she’ll let us put them on her feet. When we put her in twirl-worthy dress, she’s begun to make the cutest high pitched “Ooooh!” noise. And after dressing her, if you...
Sunday Exploring.
Sunday was a cold day and we weren’t really in the mood to get out in it, but we were in the mood to do something. Brent suggested we take a trip to a three story vintage store about half a mile from our house called Father and Son. It’s got a great selection, although the prices are higher than what we were used to in San Francisco. Living in one of the greatest vintage shopping spots...

Reader Question
Congrats on your little boy! I just love reading your blog…it’s so inspiring to see what a great outlook you have on life and love. I have a question—and maybe it’s too personal!—but how did you initially feel about your unexpected pregnancy? Was there a time when you felt overwhelmed by it? I also had a complete surprise pregnancy and I know it almost felt wrong to...
Treats for my Sweets.
When I was a little girl, I always looked forward to the “surprise” my parent’s would bring to my brother and I upon their return from a trip away. I like to continue the tradition with Brent and Everly. I always have my eye out for a little something to let them know I was thinking about them while I travel. Here’s what I’m bringing home from my trip to Montreal:

Oh Christmas Tree.
Our tree has been up for over a week now. We put it in our front room as it is loaded with glass bulbs that we knew would attract Everly’s interest like a magnet. Most of the time, the french doors between our front room and our living room are closed but we’ve found ourselves gravitating to the warm glow of the Christmas lights most evenings since it went up.
We let Everly...
In the meadow we can build a snowman, and pretend that he is Lawson Brown
– Brent’s version of the lyrics from “Winter Wonderland” (note: it should be PARSON Brown). He informed me he’s been singing it this way since he was a little boy because Lawson Brown was the name of a good friend of his fathers.
Now I can’t stop singing it that way...

Fashion Love: The Little Mister Edition
You knew it was coming! I’ve known for a long while just how unbalanced my blog has been when it comes to sponsors and cute baby clothes. It’s been a girlie frill show for awhile.
When I learned I was having a girl the first time, I purchased Everly her first “girl” thing - a pretty little green dress with crocheted white flowers. I wanted to do the same for our little...
madtown asked: What are your plans for Maternity leave this time around? Will you be able to take more time off than you did with Everly?
stellinadventureland asked: What do you think of single mothers? I mean the ones who choose to have the baby without a father?
By the way I love your blog...
By the way I love your blog...
theconleys asked: Ahh not a question... But we gave birth in the Women's Birth and Wellness center of Chapel Hill last March. It was wonderful, we loved all the midwives and the out of hospital experience. As shifts changed these ladies would come hug and kiss your forehead and it was absolutely what allowed me to have the natural birth. It definitely wasn't a convenient location for the prenatal visits...
dearheatherfeather asked: Have you thought about circumcision yet for your baby boy? Are you for it or against it? Just curious.
Database failures and FAQs
I’ve received a lot of inquiries from folks wondering why my blog has been down lately. Tumblr has been having some major database issues and every blogger on the site has been affected. I’m hopeful that they’ve sorted things out and I apologize to those of you who checked in and got an ugly “We’ll be back shortly” message instead of my blog. With these...

First Snow.
I remember the first time it snowed in NC after we moved to San Francisco. I sat at my computer pouting outloud and feeling incredibly homesick while my girlfriends updated their facebook pages with exuberate status messages and frolicking winter wonderland photos. I googled the last time there was snow in San Francisco and wikipedia told me it was sometime back in the 70s. hmph.
As soon as the...
Becoming that woman.
This weekend a joyous thing occurred. A tiny new person joined our family. Our first nephew, Thomas Wright. Sunday morning Brent and I opened our eyes and the first thing on our minds was getting dressed and going to see him and his parents, Tom and Katie. Brent and I arrived early before anyone else and had time to enjoy him all to ourselves. Katie and Tom were exhausted and joyous after a...
At this rate, you might be able to give Michelle Duggar a run for her money.

File under: Things NOT to say to your wife after you both learn of a surprise pregnancy.
No Soliciting.
I need to find someone on etsy that will make a pretty sign I can hang by our front door that reads ” There may be a baby asleep in this house. If you are selling something, keep walking - we are broke and you will be too if you knock on our door and wake up our child” I want it to say those exact words.
I love the walk-ability of our neighborhood. The neighbors who stroll by with...

Santa Claus is coming to town...
Well, In 24 days. But our excitement over Everly’s first Christmas mean that mama and dada have already squirreled away all of the little dove’s prezzies. Here’s what she’s gonna find wrapped up all pretty on Christmas morning.
A Jelly Koe Monster. I found these at a local craft fair and totally fell in love. So soft and weirdly adorable. This sweet handmade monster...
