Letters to Everly.
Dear Dovie, This little blog is full of your milestones and firsts. So here’s a big one. This is the first time you met the Atlantic ocean. It’s been a busy year for us as a family and we’re a little ashamed that it took us until the end of November to introduce you to something so important. Your father and I have spent more years than we can even remember dancing in the...

Dear Baby Sponsor: Good Frau Personalized Paper...
See this:  It’s our first annual family Christmas card. Meet our newest Dear Baby sponsor Good Frau. I emailed head Good Frau designer, Emily, with my favorite template choice, a recent family photo, the exact spelling of our last name and in no time, I had this lovely holiday card jpg file waiting for me in my gmail inbox.  What I love most about Good Frau is you have the flexibility...

Welcome back, Magic.
A little light has been rekindled in me this year. One that I lost somewhere in high school. The magic of the holidays. The true magic. More than the lights and smells and the music. The head to toe excitement that used to over take me somewhere around Thanksgiving and last until my head hit the pillow after ringing in the new year. Having Everly has brought it all back, tenfold. Everything about...

Oh Happy Miracle...: Pregnancy is scary. →
My dearest Kristen, When I was 8 weeks pregnant with Everly I was getting horrible cramps and had convinced myself (thanks to google and self diagnosing) that I had an ectopic pregnancy. I was so afraid that something horrible was happening and called my OB practice after I’d thoroughly worked myself up.  They sent me in for an ultrasound just to be sure. Turns out everything was fine and...

Doughnut run.
Last night looked to be every bit of a typical weeknight for us. I cooked a big pot of soup, we played with Dovie, ran a load of laundry and caught up on our day.  Around 7:30pm, we put her in her pajamas and gave her a bottle as we prepared for her to wind down towards bedtime. As she snuggled between us on the couch, we caught up on one of our favorite shows (Parenthood) on hulu. In one scene...

Dear Baby Sponsor Giveaway: Zuzii Baby Shoes
This giveaway is now closed. Thanks to all who entered! Oh my how I love Zuzii! This exquisite pre-walker baby shoe company makes some of the most beautifully hand crafted baby shoes I have ever come across.  When Everly’s Shoezii’s arrived in the mail, I felt myself getting a wee bit jealous that they didn’t make these wonderful shoes in adult sizes too! Everly just recently...

Letters to Everly.
Dear Everly, Before you were born, I couldn’t really imagine actually having you in my arms, even though I dreamed it a thousand times. And then when you were there, it was impossible to imagine you being anything but a sleepy, snuggly newborn. Hard as I tried, I didn’t really know what it would feel like to see you laughing back at my smile until the moment came - or you walking...

Before and After. NC State Tailgating.
Fall, 2005 Fall, 2010 Our NCSU tailgating days are a little more tame these days, but nothing makes me happier than to think back on all we’ve done together since those early days of chasing each other around the halls of the Humanities building on campus. We’ve explored the world, loved to our depths and learned what it means to be real life, honest to goodness “grown...

Successes and Failures.
(photo by Cat Wilborne - Have you Raleigh folks entered her contest for a free shoot yet?!?) What we’re working on: 1. Keeping our diaper bag fully stocked. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve been out only to discover we’re out of clean diapers. or that we used the clean onesie I try to keep in the bottom due to an unfortunate food accident on our last outing. Or the...

Cat Wilborne Photography: Win a free photoshoot...
We have fallen head over heels in love with the photos from our recent family photo shoot with Cat Wilborne. Meeting Cat and shooting with her felt like hanging out with an old friend. She’s personable and warm and didn’t even blink when I asked her to hold my child so that I could change clothes and pull a pair of tights up to my armpits in the middle of a wide open...

Porch Light Apothecary: The Fine Art of Finding... →
A beautiful post on Brent’s blog. Made me well up a bit this morning. I know I say it often, but I am a lucky woman. M porchlightapothecary: My producer says to me at the start of this project, “Brent, we need songs. Darius Rucker wrote about 72 for his latest album…We will be able to choose the top eleven from there.” No problem. I am a songwriter….observe life, write a copious amount...

Iphone photos from Da da & Everly
These sweet little photos hit my email inbox a couple times a week during the day and are accompanied with little phrases like “Kisses for mama” “My lunch is yummy!” “We’re on a hike!” “I miss you mommy” and “Out like a light”. They always do the trick and give me a few minutes to daydream about the sort of...

When the baby's away, the parents will....
Work their butts off! With Everly at her grandmother’s house overnight, Brent and I slept in Sunday morning, and awoke to a quiet house. I was traveling so much in the month of October that our house really needed some attention and I’ve been telling him all week that this weekend was going to be dedicated to getting ready for cold weather. Due to daylight savings, we graciously...

Boo Halloween.
Despite the fact that it is usually one of my favorite holidays, I’ll be the first to admit it, Everly’s first halloween was a bit of a bust. Reason #1: Her costume didn’t turn out as I planned. The dye we used to color the hoodies for the girl’s costumes faded drastically when they were washed a second time but we just ran out of time to try and redye them again. I...

Sweet Asheville.
Asheville is one of the jewels of North Carolina. It’s a cool, eclectic little mountain town peppered with artisans and musicians, a University, and rolling mountains as far as the eye can see. We were in town to visit my mom and to go to a music festival that brought thousands of people into town. Evie, as usual, was along for the ride on dada’s back and wearing an awesome pair...
